Two writable copies of an order, a balance, or a stock count will diverge. One of them is the record. The other is a replica or a cache.

Index the query you have
We look at the statements the application runs. An index that does not match them is a write cost with no read benefit.

Change it in steps
A column is added before code depends on it, and dropped only after the old code is gone. The table stays online through the deploy.
